Solar energy has grown in popularity over the years. There are many reasons for the increase in renewable energy, probably more than we can list. But let’s focus on the main reasons solar has become so attractive.
Price:
As with any technology, solar used to be pricey, it almost didn’t make sense to go green. When solar energy systems were first made available to the public, electricity tariffs were much lower. Solar panels were also not
as advanced. As the technology develops, it gets more efficient. Because of this we need to use less panels to achieve the same goal.
Eco-Friendly:
We all share this planet. Therefore we all have the responsibility to do everything we can do to look after it. With the global warming crisis we have caused, renewable energy solutions can help us limit the amount of
greenhouse gasses we produce. Thus limiting the damage we do to the Ozone layer.
Stable electricity:
More often than not, municipal infrastructure is ill maintained. Meaning that at any time(probably the least convenient time) you could be left in the dark. Power outages that last more than 24 hours are not uncommon. How
do you run your refrigerators? What about charging the batteries in your security system? How do you cook if you don’t have a gas stove? A solar energy system can ensure you keep your own lights on, always.
Eskom:
I don’t think I need to go into detail here. But I will anyway. Who knows when we could see the end of loadshedding? Not Eskom. And therefore neither do you. Apart from the major inconvenience to homes and businesses all
over the country, loadshedding poses a major security risk. Basically, Eskom gives you a schedule in order to plan when to cook, when to work and when to charge your smartphone so that you can read the next schedule. But
they also give criminals a schedule of when you’re a sitting duck, no lights, no alarm, no cameras.
